Effective leadership is often conducted through the art and skill of coaching. As leaders lead through coaching rather than the ‘telling’ approach this leads to greater engagement and fulfilment of teams.
In a ‘telling’ culture the leader or manager assumes and therefore provides all the answers and does not look for any input in how the plans will be worked out. This approach often leads to disengagement and a lack of productivity which can have a huge impact on the viability of a business.
However, in a ‘coaching’ culture the leader understand that they don’t have all the answers and that their role is to lead through developing the team they have.
What’s the point of employing just the hands and feet of people and miss out on the brains, insights, gifts and talents within them?
However, leaders need to be developed for this to happen. I often consider effective leadership in the following way – Leadership is the ability to lead others to places they could not have gone without you.
Effective coaching is a gamechanger.
Through coaching, Directors, Leaders, Managers, and Team Leaders can transform their leadership skills. This type of transformation, changes culture and brings out the very best within everyone on the team.
In a culture of coaching, talents and abilities are employed, the ability to solve problems increases. Innovation and engagement are often multiplied. This also leads to a far higher retention rate of the best people and therefore enjoying increased productivity and profitability.
